Alan Wake Remastered in the test: worthwhile new edition

Test Conclusion

Test note

1.8

Well

With his engaging mixture of powerful action, gripping horror thriller and Schaurig-beautiful backdrop offered Alan Wake already eleven years ago a unique experience. The Remastered version does not change the basic concept, but the adventure will significantly increase the adventure with far-reaching technical improvements atmospherically. With the current graphics references, Alan Wake Remastered can not entirely keep up and drags a few contaminated sites with the mixed old German voice output. However, that does not change a consistently successful new edition, which should not be missed for series goals and which also supplies fans best arguments to return to Bright Falls.

New editions of older games are still hard in fashion. Recently, Blizzard s fans returned long ago Diablo 2 in a more basic-renovated version. Also Max Payne -erfinder Remedy Entertainment now jumps on the reuse train with Alan Wake Remastered and leaves you a good eleven years after the former Xbox-360 exclusive start of the original again into the mysterious grusel village Bright Falls. The editorial staff has already experienced the massively supervised nightmare of the Name Giving Writer on the Next-Gen consoles - and once again packed by the unique mixture of horror trip and scatter action.

narrative unchanged

As the name of the game already sounds, Alan Wake Remastered is not a complete new development. The story, the game mechanics, yes even the then today more than moderate German voice output remain practically unchanged, while the Finnish developers have polished the graphically strong - for this later. So they take over in the game as it had the role of the thriller author Alan Wake, who has not brought no word to paper for over two years and is plagued by puzzle-real nightmares. Therefore, Alan and his wife Alice travel to the seemingly idyllic mountain village of Bright Falls to make a vacation and leave the everyday worries behind.

But soon it happens enigmatic: Alice disappears without a trace, and the dark visions of Alans seem to be reality, as mysterious shadows or even alive machines attack the sleepless author. The boundaries between what is really real and what might only spray all of the plagued spirit of Alans, seemingly - for the protagonist as well as for them as a player. Especially in conjunction with the numerous references on well-known horror movies and books or the curved inhabitants of the city reminiscent of the cult TV series Twin Peaks results in a very exciting narrative, in which the action never comes too short.

with light and weapons power

In Alan Wake Remastered the action is divided into individual chapters, which consists similarly to a television series from individual episodes - including the summary of previous events. Her dramaturgical highlights can be achieved not least within the many cinematic intermediate sequences, but also thanks to loving details, if you are looking for, for example, on televisions in the area a broadcast on the Mystery series Twilight Zone . The gaming experience is extremely intense due to the action that you experience without exception from the pursuit perspective.

Said shadow are combat with a combination of predominantly classic firearms and the light extremely rar in the most nocturnal inserts. Should Protagonist Alan have taken damage, only the latter can heal him. And only the glow of her flashlight or the glowing glow of a luminous torch distributes the darkness so that she can do her adversaries at all with pistol or hunting rifle.

This gives the confrontations on the one hand a pleasant tactical component and, on the other hand, ensures that the battles later in similar form feel more strongly after an intensive survival battle than in a classic survival horror game à la Resident Evil . Especially in the varied boss fights, panic arises when enemies surround them or turns a lively locomotive ...

Scary-beautiful on Next-Gen level

The most important and essentially the only real innovation of Alan Wake Remastered consists in the comprehensive revised graphics. On all supported platforms alone, the higher image resolution is noticeable by a drastic increase in image sharpness - on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, there is even native 4K resolution. In general, you can enjoy new high-resolution textures, improved lighting and shadow effects as well as considerably more environmental details. Where in the original comparatively barren shrubs and treetops were to be seen, the vegetation now looks much poet and lifelike.

Over the times are gross monochrome floor coverings. Here wooden boards now show a fine grain and on the field paths, the tire profile of the vehicles has left realistic traces. The foresight increases dramatically, so further away mountain formations no longer look like gray brown mud. Edge fibrillation, ugly image or unstable frame rate? All this is in Alan Wake Remastered - otherwise saves themselves on the Xbox 360.

The character models are massively placed in the level of detail, of which, last but not least the various intermediate sequences benefit. The facial expressions of the figures is still lightweight wood, but the increase is so clear that they run away from the graphic NEXT gene reference titles as competitive. Individual aspects such as alose jump and climbing animations are quite clear compared to current titles. Real disadvantages for the atmosphere will not be like today as today. The bottom line would have a little more remedy in individual points, the Finnish studio is overall but a very good modernization of the graphic succeeded, which gives no real reason to the lawsuit.

Release: Alan Wake Remastered appears on 5 October 2021 as a box version and digital for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S as well as for PC exclusively in the Epic Games Store for extremely fair 30 Euro.
